Andrew SCott

Andrew Scott (BDS, BMSc, DPDS) – Principal Dentist

Andrew graduated from the University of Dundee Dental School in 1996 and has been placing dental implants since 1999. He has regularly attended many advanced dental implant courses and conferences in UK and Europe to extend his expertise and knowledge. Andrew jointly runs an implant study group for the North East of Scotland and is a registered mentor to assist dentists wishing to learn and place dental implants. Andrew is happy to accept referrals for all aspects of dental implant treatment and also has a keen interest in cosmetic dentistry.


Julie Rafferty (BDS)
GDC no. 69554

Joined the practice when it first opened in January 2005 having also qualified from Dundee University in 1993. Julie worked in Canada for 6 years obtaining a pass in the Canadian Dental Board Exam in 2004 before returning to Aberdeen. Julie enjoys all aspects of dentistry with a special interest in cosmetic dentistry with particular satisfaction from seeing the results. She has undergone cosmetic orthodontic courses in Six Month Smiles, Clear Aligner and Inman Aligner.


Shahab Rahman (BDS MSc MFDS RCSEd)

Following Shahab’s MSc in Restorative Dentistry from the University of Newcastle in 2004, he went on to do his Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery (MFDS RCS Ed) from the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh). During his MSc, he carried out research on an endodontic related topic looking at various irrigants in immature teeth. This was published in an international peer reviewed journal. He trained under Dr. John Whitworth who taught him rotary instruments and the use of magnification/microscopes.

He has been working in the Restorative Dentistry Department of Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and latterly at Aberdeen Dental School and Hospital. Shahab worked as a Senior House Officer from 2004-2007 an has been Specialty Dentist in the department since 2007.

Shahab provides comprehensive specialist level care for patients in Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics, Periodontics, Endodontics and Implantology. His special interests are broadly related to endodontics and prosthodontics. Endodontics: Re-RCTs, root end surgeries, perforation repairs, retrieval of post/fractured instrument. Prosthodontics: full mouth rehabilitation including restoring severe tooth wear / tooth surface loss cases and complex denture cases including overdentures. He also has a special interest in implantology and is experienced in both Straumann and Nobel Biocare systems.

He is a member of the British Society of Prosthodontists and the British Society of Periodontology.


Martin Ritchie (BDS)

Martin graduated with commendation from the University of Dundee in 2009 before returning to his hometown and joining Queens Cross Dental in 2013. Martin’s ethos is that optimum dental care starts with sound diagnosis, careful planning and good communication.  His attention to detail is matched by his dedication to delivering an enjoyable and relaxing experience.

Martin provides comprehensive general dental care and also has a particular interest in minimally-invasive restorative and aesthetic dentistry.  He has undertaken extensive post-graduate training in comprehensive dentistry and the management of difficult denture cases.  Martin is an alumnus of The Dawson Academy and an elected member of the Dental Technicians Guild. His relationships with some of the UK’s foremost dental technicians allows him to deliver crowns, veneers and dentures of exceptional quality and lifelike look and feel.

Martin has a keen interest in cooking, photography and playing music and is also a CSIA qualified ski instructor.

Donald McIntosh (BDS)

Donald has recently joined Queens Cross Dental after having worked in private practice, in Elgin, as an Associate Dentist. This has given him the opportunity to hone his skills in all aspects of general dental practice, ensuring he can provide a high quality of care and bring an extensive experience of general dentistry.

He has friendly, approachable demeanour towards his patients. This has allowed him to explain treatment procedures and plans to patients effectively and in a way that they confidently understand.

He is interested in many aspects of dentistry, particularly Restorative and Periodontal dentistry. Donald regularly attends courses to maintain his Continuing Professional Development and ensure his skills are up to date. He is also qualified to provide Intravenous Sedation for anxious patients and has been carrying out IV sedations for the last four years giving him extensive experience of providing this treatment.

Donald has also completed and received a diploma in Oral Implantology and Rehabilitation from the University of Maimonides in Argentina. This has enabled him to carry out straight forward and complex implant placements, to do bone grafting, sinus elevations and soft tissue grafting. And provide treatment options that enable cosmetic and functional rehabilitation of the patient’s mouth.

He can also provide orthodontic treatment in the form of Fast Braces to patients. Fast braces can provide a comprehensive approach to orthodontics. Treatment can take between 9-12 months to complete which is shorter than conventional braces which take between 2-3 years. Donald can assess you and tell you if you are suitable for this treatment.


Martin Donachie BDS, MDS(Ncle), DRD RCS(Edin) MRD RCS(Edin), FDS RCS(Edin) FDS RCS Rest Dent (Edin)

Martin is a Consultant/Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer in Restorative Dentistry and Clinical Director in Aberdeen Dental Hospital and School. He was accepted on the Specialist register for Restorative Dentistry in 1998, Periodontics in 2001, Endodontics in 2001, Prosthodontics in 2001. Martin has over 30 years dental experience and over 18 years experience as a specialist.

Martin has been a trainer for Specialists in all aspects of Restorative Dentistry since 1998 and established the Regional Dental Implant Service in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary in 1996. He has trained and mentored other Consultants and Specialists in both surgical and restorative aspect of Dental Implant Treatment since that time. He has been a Fellow of The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh since 1986 and College Regional Dental Advisor for Grampian since 2000. Martin is also currently an examiner for MFDS.
Martin has been running a successful Restorative Dentistry referral practice in Aberdeen for more than 18 years. He is happy to accept referrals for all aspects of Restorative Dentistry, including periodontal disease management, endodontic treatment and re-treatment, dental implant treatment, especially of a complex nature, as well as the management of aesthetic dental problems.

Arvind Sharma (BDS(Dund), MSc(Endodontology), MJDF RCS (Eng), MFDS RCPS (Glasg))

Arvind qualified in 1996 from the University of Dundee and went to work on Edinburgh as an associate where he still works today providing General Dentistry and Advanced Endodontics. He has gained membership through examination of the Joint Dental Faculties of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and Glasgow. Arvind has also completed Masters degree in Endodontology at the University of Central Lancashire passing with Merit. Using contemporary equipment, materials and techniques he has been accepting referrals for complex endodontics in Edinburgh since 2014. . Arvind is committed to postgraduate education and is a postgraduate tutor for NHS Education for Scotland as well as a Certified Dentsply Maillefer Trainer. He is an active member of the British Endodontic Society and The Royal Odonto-Chirurgical of Scotland. He is happy to accept referrals for all aspects of non-surgical endodontic treatments.


Nicola Charles (RDH), Hygienist

Nicola Charles (RDH) qualified from Dundee Dental Hospital with a Diploma in Dental Hygiene in September 1993 and has worked in local general practice since. Nicola joined us in January 2008 and is interested in periodontal (gum) health, with aims to encourage and motivate patients to improve on their general oral health in a comfortable environment.


Dawn Dodsworth, Practice Manager

Dawn is from Bristol and qualified as a Dental Nurse in 1990, she is also qualified in Dental Radiography and IV Sedation. Dawn worked as Senior Nurse in a Private Practice before becoming an Area Nurse for the South West of England for Oasis Dental Care. She moved to Aberdeen in 2008 where she joined Queens Cross Dental as our Practice Manager.
